Sarah and her miracle baby Calum’s birth story

Well Elaine I finally have my own birth story! Baby Calum arrived yesterday at 5:26 weighing 7lb 3oz and is perfect. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

As you know he is a bit of a miracle baby and we’ve been waiting a long time for him.

After a year of trying to conceive after a miscarriage I went to my doctor to get checked out. They found a large cyst on my ovary which turned out to be cancer.

I was 29 being diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was devastated. I had one ovary removed and started chemo in November 2015.

We were told we could have problems conceiving so did a round of ivf so we would have backup frozen embryos.

I finished chemo in February 2016, got the all clear in April and amazingly got pregnant in June!! !!
The birth story!

We didn’t have the easiest of Labour’s so my plans of a natural birth just didn’t work out but I still wouldn’t change a thing.

Waters broke at home at 5am Sunday. Went to hospital and got checked out – as me and Babs we’re fine they sent us home. Contractions started about 1pm and by 11pm were lasting 50 seconds so went back to hospital. Surges were very strong all night. I managed to get through them with breathing, stretches and hip circles. Being active definitely got me through but meant I didn’t get much rest as surges were so closetogether. By 11am Monday morning cervix had thinned but not opened. As my waters were gone I needed oxytocin to get things moving. I was exhausted so went for epidural. I was just so tired. By 5pm I was fully dilated. Got a temperature during Labour and baby’s heart rate was going up and down so needed help with forceps.

But every bit of it was worth it – when they placed him on my chest it was the most amazing feeling.

So it wasn’t what I’d planned but he arrived safe and that’s all that matters.

If the last year has taught me anything it’s that sonetime you just have to roll with it no matter what happens.
Thanks for everything Elaine. All of your advice all the way through pregnancy helped so much and I looked forward to the yoga every week. Best of luck to all the other mama’s. 😘😘😘

A prime example that unfortunately not everything in life will go the way you want it to but in order to get a rainbow, you just have to have a little rain!! Well done for being so positive during everything you’ve gone through sis. Now let the fun begin with Calum!! Xxx
