Hey Elaine, finally getting around to sending you my birth story! I started writing this multiple times and can only seem to get a bit done before one of the kids pulls me in a different direction 😂
Thanks so much for sending on all the well wishes from the pregnancy yoga girls and good vibes, it means a lot!
I’ve spent the past 2 weeks in a lovely little bubble with my new little man and his very excited big brother and sister! I pretty much turned off my phone until now cause I wanted to focus on the little gang and make sure I was present for them (also cause I’m exhausted ahaha!)
Every night for ages before I went into labour I kept thinking it was happening and then when it actually was… I didn’t realize until quite far along (this happened with my other labours too)😂 I have to say the ‘contractions’ were totally different for this labour, it was more back pain than what the contractions felt like before, they weren’t as regular, they would stop and start and some seemed long and short.
On Sunday morning, Ger got up and brought Teddy and Stevie to his parents for breakfast (they love going to have porridge with Grandad at the weekends) so I could have a bit of a lie in. When he was gone I started to get quite uncomfortable (not necessarily what i thought were contractions but severe back pain on and off) and tried ringing Ger and couldn’t get him (turned out his phone was on silent)😂
When he finally looked at his phone, he panicked and came home straight away… However we were due to go to a christening at 12 (Ger was godfather for good friends of ours baby) and I thought it was still fine to go to it 🤣
We went to the ceremony and then up to the afters in the garden… Now this is a random detail but I got a can of 7up and started drinking it, I hadn’t got through half of it when I started to get emotional and said to ger we needed to go. We headed home to get the bag (bout 7 mins from our house). And things had really ramped up by then and I was in the back of the car (actually listening to a piece of music you use to play in pregnancy yoga when I was pregnant with Teddy and Stevie) and I started shivering and shaking uncontrollably (I’ve since been told that it was my body going into shock cause it realized what was happening even if I didn’t).
When we drove out of the house Ger saw a Garda and flagged him down and said it was too far along and we needed an escort. He was flying around the bends of the road from Blessington to Tallaght (can’t say I enjoyed that part of the journey ahaha). When we got to Tallaght, the Garda stopped because he said he didn’t know the way so told us to drive on without him ahaha!
At this point Ger rang 999 and kept driving. At Templeogue bridge, i felt something starting to come out (turned out to be the bag) then we drove a bit further and stopped outside Terenure college cause there was room there to meeting the ambulance etc. At this point they started coaching Ger on the phone what he was going to have to do cause they didn’t think they would get there in time. However the fire engine arrived just in the nick of time and one of the paramedics jumped out and hopped into the back of the car. My waters still hadn’t burst (they never burst naturally on any of my labours) so she popped them and straight away he was there. He was very quiet when he arrived so i thought there was something wrong but it turns out thats just his personality and he seems very chilled with chaos around him, which is good cause our house is defo not quiet😂
People were saying “it must’ve been awful giving birth in the car etc” but it was actually fine and I didn’t mind that bit at all. Having said that though, I think if i hadve known getting into the car that I’d be giving birth a half an hour later i would’ve stayed at home😂😂😂
Huge congratulations to Ann on the birth of her baby boy – name yet to be decided! Thanks j you so much for sharing your birth story with us!
